Those who insist that we cannot solve America’s education problems without first solving poverty have it exactly backwards: we will never solve poverty until we guarantee a great education for all our children. This belief inspires the work of the Connecticut Coalition for Achievement Now (www.conncan.org), which has emerged in the past five years as the pacesetting model of effective state-level education reform.
Position
ConnCAN has distinguished itself with its energetic “we won’t fail” culture, a national-caliber team working on state-level problems, and a focused and committed board. As a key member of the team, the Assistant to CEO & COO will support the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer and will work closely with other team members on key tasks and projects. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional multi-tasking abilities, excellent written and verbal communication skills, be extraordinarily organized, detail-oriented and self-directed and be dedicated to fixing poverty by reforming public education.
Responsibilities
• Research, Analysis and Project Management: Complete complex projects supporting the work of the CEO and COO (sample projects include researching new development prospects, managing the advocacy campaign planning process, and creating presentations for keynote speeches).
• Writing and Communications: Draft and edit documents to ensure accurate and effective communication. Update content on the website. Maintain daily e-mail and phone correspondence (such as writing to senior leaders at partner organizations on behalf of CEO and COO).
• Scheduling and Administrative Support: Coordinate the CEO’s and COO’s calendars. Manage internal and external communications to ensure flawless scheduling. Prepare materials for conference calls and meetings. Create and circulate notes from internal meetings. Maintain our project management system.
• Event planning: Working with the development manager and other team members, plan, coordinate, and help execute the logistics for ConnCAN events.
• Office Management: Working with the executive officer for human resources and operations, order and take inventory of office supplies, arrange mass mailings, collect and distribute the mail daily, order catering for and plan in-office events, and maintain a warm and supportive office environment.
Qualifications
• Interest in performing a critical support role while learning in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
• Strong commitment to education reform and ConnCAN’s mission to close the achievement gap.
• Sense of humor, strong work ethic, “roll-up-my-sleeves” attitude, and willingness to do “whatever it takes.”
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, detail-oriented and highly organized.
• Must possess a bachelor’s degree from a competitive college or university.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. ConnCAN offers a comprehensive benefits package. Interested candidates should send a cover letter and resume.
