18th Century hand colored engraving
"The Gentleman's Recreation"
The first part deals with all manner of arts and sciences including navigation;
the second with horsemanship, hunting, hawking, fishing, agriculture etc.,
including well-executed plates with engraved dedications below the image.
Richard Blome (1635-1705) was an English map and book seller who is mainly known for his county atlas 'Britannia' which is based on maps by John Speed.
This engraving was passed down through the family to me.
Purchased in the early 1900's from The Old Print Shop
in New York
Should probably be reframed and matted
The print appears to be in good condition but
should be professionally cleaned
