LLOYD HAMOVIT Oil Bottle - Studio Art Pottery 2 Rivers …
Lloyd Hamovit is a New England clay artist whose work combines the tradition of the potter's wheel with sculptural altering techniques. Lloyd has master's degrees from the Rhode Island School of Design and the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Lloyd has participated in a wide variety of ceramic activities throughout his career and has been called on to work in many areas of ceramic production and education.

After 20 years as an arts educator and ceramics teacher, Lloyd Hamovit founded the 2 Rivers Ceramics Studio, which is located in Newbury, MA. Lloyd offers a variety of classes for adults and children at the studio while also pursuing his own personal craft.

Lloyd is a member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsman. Lloyd’s work is carried by the League’s galleries. Lloyd also exhibits at the annual 9-day Craftsmen’s Fair at Mt. Sunapee NH each August.

Lloyd is a regular participant in the CraftBoston fine craft shows sponsored by the Society of Arts and Crafts. As a member of the Paradise City Arts Festival, Lloyd displays his work four times a year in Northampton, MA and Marlborough, MA. In addition to these annual events, Lloyd hosts spring and fall sales at his Newbury, MA studio.

Lloyd produces ceramic work in two styles. His porcelain pieces are whimsical and often imitate the human form in a sculptural manner. The nature of his figurative work has evolved through throwing and altering porcelain pieces to achieve more sculptural forms. More functional stoneware pieces are also designed to convey humor, joy, and harmony. Commissions and specialty work are always welcome.

Lloyd enjoys showing interested student artists how to experience personal fulfillment and fun while learning a variety of ceramic methods from the potter’s wheel to hand building. Lloyd has taught workshops for students of all ages, including serving as a mentor for young artists at the prestigious Da Vinci Days summer program at the prestigious Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C., advising graduate students at his studio, and working with adults of all levels to discover the joys of playing in the mud.
