It’s this exact Murphy bed, originally $3600:

Installed 2 years ago but only used a couple times.

It’s very sturdy (all the structural parts are made of metal), easy to raise and lower the bed (there are pneumatic supports that carry most of the weight, so you’re not holding the whole weight of the bed as you raise and lower it). It has a lock with a key to prevent kids from putting it down when you don’t want them to. It can accommodate a thick mattress, and you can leave the bedding on the mattress when you put it up.

The desk stays horizontal when you lower the bed, so your computer can stay on the desk and hang out under the bed until you’re ready to put the bed away and use the desk again.

There’s nothing wrong with it, we just really don’t need it and want to use the space for a real office with a bigger desk and no bed. We originally bought it because it was absolutely perfect for a specific space in our old house, but then we moved, and we just don’t have a great space for it.

I included pictures of it installed in our house, but I am uninstalling it, so you would pick up the stack of parts. The instructions to reassemble are available online, and the parts are still labeled with stickers showing the letters/numbers that correspond to the instructions.

I was able to do 90% of the installation by myself with the no special equipment and just called in reinforcements to help lift two parts that were exceptionally heavy (the top “lid” with crown moulding, and the desk).
