Since 1947 The Rochdale Co-op has been providing affordable housing in downtown New Haven. We are a democratically-run and diverse community that strives to be a supportive, fun, and ecologically-responsible place to live. Room available, apply now!
About The House
The house is a brownstone with four floors, thirteen bedrooms, six bathrooms, and a shared kitchen. We have free on-site laundry, a fenced-in backyard, and a TV room with cable. There is on-street parking. You can apply for a parking pass from the city. We also have bike storage.
Our member dues (aka rent) vary based on room size. They include utilities, use of common areas, designated storage space, and community supplies (i.e. toilet paper and trash bags). Currently, we have six rooms available, each under $500 a month. If accepted we ask for a security deposit and the first month's rent to move in.
About Membership
As a member, you will be responsible for doing your part in maintaining the physical property and all operations associated with running a non-profit. We do not require shared meals. Each member is required to do house chores, attend monthly meetings, and applicant interviews as they arise. Members contribute an average of five hours a month toward maintaining the house. Current house members are low-income and working-class people, traditional and non-traditional students, artists, and organizers.
Please only apply if you are looking to stay at least one year. Unfortunately, we do not allow pets. We are looking for applicants interested in the social community of the co-op!
